Violence against women to be highlighted in cartoon event

ANTALYA - Anatolia News Agency
A cartoon competition with the theme of “violence against women” will be organized within the scope of a project initiated by Akdeniz University, Mediterranean Women Entrepreneurs Association (AGİDER) and Leman magazine.

“Violence against women is one of the most important problems in Turkey and our goal is to highlight this issue and offer solutions,” said Vice-Rector Professor Meral Gültekin at a press conference held yesterday at Akdeniz University.

Gültekin said thanks to the project, violence against women would be shown without hiding anything and students interested in the art of cartoon would improve their talent.

AGİDER Deputy Chairman Figen Sayın said they supported the competition because the association had a mission to increase the number of female entrepreneurs. A jury that will be formed by Leman magazine would make a choice among the cartoons about the issue, she said, adding that workshops would be organized at the university with the participation of students chosen by the jury.

The issue of violence will be discussed during workshops that will be moderated by experts from Leman magazine, she said, adding that the cartoons ranked in the competition will also be displayed at the Akdeniz University on March 8, 2012 for International Women’s Day.

Submissions for the cartoon competition will end on Jan. 20, 2012.
