Istanbul, known as the “city of tulips” during the Ottoman Empire, will be home to the new Tulip Museum and Research Center. The decision to establish the center was made in a unanimous vote during the March 4 meeting of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality at Saraçhane Municipality Palace.

The municipality assigned a space for the museum and research center, where the position and importance of tulips in Turkish arts and culture as well as research on tulips undertaken by the Istanbul Tulip Association will be displayed.

An area of 3,302.85 square meters in the Sarıyer neighborhood was assigned to the Istanbul Tulip Foundation to serve as the museum and contribute to social services and the country’s tourism for the next 25 years.

The center will include temporary and permanent exhibition halls, a library, meeting and conference halls, research units and other social and cultural areas.
