Master photographer Sabit Kalfagil laid to rest

A master of Turkish photography, Professor Sabit Kalfagil, was laid to rest in Istanbul on May 6.

Kalfagil died in Istanbul’s Haydapaşa Albdülhamit Research and Education Hospital on May 5 at the age of 83.
Among the attendees of his funeral ceremony were academics from Marmara University and many photography artists.

Born in the eastern province of Elazığ in 1934, Kalfagil graduated from Konya High School and studied architecture at Istanbul Technical University. He also held posts as development director, mayor adviser and deputy mayor at the Istanbul Municipality until 1980.

Awarded the Culture and Arts Grand Prize in 2011, Kalfagil was the founder of Marmara University’s Photography Department.
