Diyarbakır’s children meet theater

The Diyarbakır-based Mordem Arts Center has introduced children from the rural areas of five districts in the southeastern province to theater for the first time, in an event organized with the support of the Diyarbakır Bar Children’s Right Center.

Mordem Arts Center coordinator Gülidar Gürbüz said they staged the play titled “Magic Country” for 500 children in five village schools in five districts, including Bismil, Çınar, Hazro, Lice and Silvan.

Gürbüz said their next project is to give 15 days of culture and arts education in art workshops to be organized in the districts.

Diyarbakır Bar Children’s Rights Center member Ümit Asye Demir said they were involved in many different projects for children across the province, which is among Turkey’s poorest.
