Turkish courts have rejected a request by the family of Narin Güran, an 8-year-old girl found dead in southeastern Türkiye, to reclassify her death as an unsolved murder two years after the incident.
Authorities said the case had already been reviewed publicly by trial and appellate courts and that no new, concrete evidence had emerged to warrant reopening it under the “unknown perpetrator” category.
Meanwhile, prosecutors in Diyarbakır have launched a judicial investigation into “Şeytantepe,” a documentary about the case, over allegations that it sought to discredit the investigation and court proceedings.
The probe covers its filming, production and financing, including financial transfers and possible links to efforts challenging the finalized ruling.
Narin disappeared on Aug. 21, 2024, and was found 19 days later in a streambed. An autopsy found she had been strangled. Her uncle Salim Güran, mother Yüksel Güran and brother Enes Güran were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment, while neighbor Nevzat Bahtiyar received 17 years for aiding the murder.
