Art Writing Turkey set for inaugural event

Hosted by Kathleen Madden, along with guest speakers Osman Erden and Zeynep Öz, Art Writing Turkey will be held on Sept. 18.

Mixer is hosting Art Writing Turkey’s inaugural event, to be held at Art International, in partnership with Sotheby’s Turkey and in collaboration with Flint PR.

Hosted by Kathleen Madden, along with guest speakers Osman Erden and Zeynep Öz, the event will be held on Sept. 18.

Art Writing Turkey is a trailblazing project that ultimately aims to enhance the awareness of emerging talented Turkish art writers, while promoting the current art landscape, by bringing together both eminent writers and experienced professionals from the domestic and international arts and culture sector.

The event is a crucial project for Turkey, as it acknowledges and compliments Mixer’s organizational ethos of not only supporting emerging artists, but also supporting ground-breaking educational initiatives covering every aspect of the arts sector.

The valuable work that it and other similar organizations do must provide the fundamental support and exceptional expertise that is required to further develop the topic in Turkey today, according to Mixer.

“We are flying the flag for would-be art writers and over the next few years we will deliver a program of events, never before seen on this scale, aimed at tackling the subject in its entirety,” said the project’s manager, Robbie-Lee Valentine.

The project’s initial event will consist of a panel led debate, to be held at Art International Istanbul, hosted by Madden, an art critic, art historian and author. Madden contributes regularly to Artforum and has curated exhibitions for the Tate Modern, London. Madden will also be joined by Erden, an assistant professor of Mimar Sinan Universities Fine Art department and president of AICA, International Association of Art Critics (http://www.aica-int.org) and Öz, a curator, art critic and art adviser.
