AkSanat holds art seminars

ISTANBUL - Hürriyet Daily News
Akbank Sanat is introducing Istanbul to Asian art with Ahmet Sosyal’s seminars “Art Opening to Spirituality,” which will be composed of four sections for visual arts and music.

Scheduled to be held Dec. 27, the first section of seminars will focus on an “Introduction to Chinese and Japanese Art of Painting.” The Chinese art of painting dates back to ancient times and was an influence to Japanese art, however, Japanese paintings have found their own authentic styles. The teachings of the Tao have a basic place among the factors determining Chinese painting. Chinese and Japanese paintings will be discussed within this spiritualist context. Seminars on Dec. 28 will focus on the American contemporary composer John Cage, whose 100th birthday is being celebrated. Cage frequently resorted to ancient Chinese fortune-telling I-Ching and Zen Buddhism in his pioneering works and theoretical scripts. The composer’s works and way of thinking will be discussed in this context. The number of participants allowed in to the seminars is limited.
