Akbank Jazz Festival opens with Herreros

Juan Sebastian Garcia-Herreros, also known as The Snow Owl, opens the Akbank Jazz Festival today.

The 22nd Akbank Jazz Festival will begin today with a concert by Snow Owl 5tet at Akbank Art. Young and talented participants will also enjoy the chance to study individually with these artists and learn from their techniques.

Juan Sebastian Garcia-Herreros, also known as The Snow Owl, has been called a virtuoso since the age of 16, when he started teaching at New York’s Dunedin High School. He will be sharing all his knowledge as a world-famous musician with the lucky participants in this particular workshop.

Garcia-Herreros studied at Berklee College of Music with a scholarship and has performed with many significant musicians such as Elton John, Victor Wooten, Jojo Mayer, James Spaulding and Paul Urbanek. His debut, “Snow Owl,” was a great success and in the year 2006, he was given the best jazz musician award by Jazz First. Garcia-Herreros is known for his use of a customized six-string electric contrabass guitar. In Snow Owl 5tet, he performs with Bilal Karaman, who was chosen one of the top five guitarists of the last decade by Jazz Magazine.
