Vesna Souc

Turkey’s Presidential Symphonic Orchestra (CSO) will mark March 8 International Women’s Day with two special concerts in the capital Ankara.

Under the baton of conductor Vesna Souc, who will conduct the orchestra for the first time, the concerts will take place on the night of March 8 and 9 at the CSO Concert Hall.

The concerts will start with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Concerto in D major, Opus 61 to be performed by Georgian-origin Turkish citizen violinist Veriko Tchumburidze.

Tchumburidze, 22, drew attention in 2012 as the winner of the 7th International Tchaikovsky Young Musician Competition and was also the winner of the prestigious 15th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in 2016.

In the second part of the concert, Felix Mendelssohn’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be performed by soprano Simge Büyükedes and alto Asude Karayavuz. State Theater artists Deniz Gökçe Koçman and Olcay Kavuzlu will be on stage as narrators, while the female voices of the Saygun Philharmonic Orchestra will also take the stage during the concert.

Tickets for the concerts are available at CSO box offices, the Dost Music Center and www.biletinial.com
