Nine PKK militants given 26 aggravated life sentences Nine militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) were given a total of 26 aggravated life sentences, totaling around 1,500 years in prison, on June 22, over attacks staged in the İskenderun and Dörtyol districts of the southern province of Hatay in 2009 and 2010.

The İskenderun 2nd Court of Serious Crimes ordered a total of 26 aggravated life sentences for the militants, who it referred to as the “PKK executioners of the Amanos Mountains.”

The PKK militant responsible for the Amanos region, Cengiz Nergiz, codenamed Sefkan Amed, was given 14 aggravated life sentences. Kenan Yıldızbakan, codenamed Fırat Siverek, was given 10 aggravated life sentences, while Bayram Daimi, codenamed Erdal Zaza, was given two aggravated life sentences. The three militants also received regular jail terms of hundreds of years.

Meanwhile, the court also sentenced six other militants to various jail terms.

A total of 10 soldiers and four police officers were killed in separate PKK attacks in Dörytol and İskenderun in 2009 and 2010.

The militants responsible for the attacks were later caught in the southern province of Mersin.
