‘New York New York’ in Istanbul theater

The 31st Istanbul Film Festival will host a commemorative screening of Martin Scorsese’s 1977 film “New York New York” today at 4 p.m. at Rexx Cinema. The film is a musical tribute, featuring new songs by John Kander and Fred Ebb, as well as standards, to Scorsese’s home town of New York City. The movie stars Robert De Niro and Liza Minnelli as a pair of musicians and lovers. Scorsese explains that he intended the film to be a break from the gritty realism that he had become famous for and sees it as a homage to the musical films of classical Hollywood.
