A German sailor who has been missing on Aug. 23 has been found dead off of Turkey’s Aliağa coastline, from where he was planning to sail toward Balıkesir, according to Doğan News Agency.

A male body was pulled out by Aliağa coast guards around noon on Aug. 28. The man was later identified as 59-year-old German national Peter Malke.

Malke was reportedly planning to depart from Aliağa shore to Balıkesir’s Ayvalık before he went missing five days beforehand.

Malke and his wife had moved to Turkey last year and owned a seven-meter-long boat. Malke last spoke to a friend while he was around Lesbos Island, reportedly saying that his boat was experiencing technical issues.

The exact cause of death remains unknown amid a pending autopsy.
