Properties belonging to the Turkish state occupy almost 44 percent of Istanbul’s area.

The Turkish Treasury has more than 3.6 million real-estates, which make up 218.9 billion square meters in total as they constitute 44.3 percent of Istanbul, 22.2 percent of capital Ankara, and 36.8 percent of the Aegean city of Izmir, according to data from the Ministry of Finance’s General Directorate of National Estate.

The Treasury has most of its properties in the southern province of Antalya with 159,829, followed by the Central Anatolian province of Konya with 145,662 and Istanbul with 129,048. It has the least properties in the southeastern province of Kilis with 4,761.
