Erdoğan launches 5G for Türkiye’s stronger communication base

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has officially activated 5G technology in Türkiye, to strengthen and accelerate communication across the country, stressing that this critical move will further boost Türkiye’s economic and technological development.

“We initially launch 5G in 81 provincial centers, and within two years, we will make it available in every corner of our country,” President Erdoğan said at the “Strong Türkiye in Communication with 5G Ceremony,” with the participation of Transportation Minister Abdülkadir Uraloğlu and the CEOs of the major mobile operators on March 31 in the Turkish capital.

“I want to share what 5G will bring us: Our communication speed increases tenfold. Lag time is reduced to 1 millisecond,” Erdoğan explained, stressing this will pave the way for uninterrupted and secure communication will be ensured.

5G technology will not speed up communication but also will make it more secure, the president stressed, underlining that it will create new opportunities in almost all domains, from economy to digitalization, trade to agriculture, industry to transportation.

“In this new era, our communication models will change. Our citizens will enjoy speedier internet and new virtual networks will be able to be formed for different sectors under the same physical infrastructure,” Erdoğan said.

“This transformation will have a major impact on Türkiye’s high value-added production,” the president stressed.

Cyber security a must for safety

In today’s world where significant developments in technology and digitalization are taking place, security is no longer about protecting the borders and territories, President Erdoğan said, citing cyber security is must for maintaining sovereignty.

“We have to take precautions for cyber security. Maintaining data security has played a critical role in this process as the developments in Lebanon, Gaza and Iran have once again proved the importance of cyber security,” he stated.

“If you cannot control your airspace in the same way with your borders; if you cannot have control of your cyber security, that means you have serious setbacks about your sovereignty,” he underlined.

“Combined, artificial intelligence and cyber security, constitute an important issue for national security. We have created the basis of this for the past 23 years in power,” Erdoğan stressed, adding that all the necessary steps were taken for the establishment of a strong cyber security architecture.
