Dogs kill each other out of hunger in shelter, visitor claims

A visitor to a Niğde Municipality-owned animal shelter has claimed that the animals are not being fed sufficiently and most are infected with diseases, sharing video footage on social media depicting a group of dogs eating another dog in the shelter.

Nurşah Kartal said she visited the Niğde Municipality’s animal shelter on Sept. 12, when she saw that one of the dogs had been killed and was being eaten by the other dogs in the shelter. She later recorded and shared shocking video footage of the scene at the shelter.

Kartal also a filed a complaint to Niğde's chief public prosecutor regarding the incident.

Niğde Mayor Faruk Akdoğan said he had not been informed the details about conditions in the shelter, also calling on journalists to visit the shelters whenever they wish.
