BDP deputies on guest list for police ball
Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) co-chairman Selahattin Demirtas (R), politicians Sirri Sureyya Onder (C) and Pelvin Buldan (L). AFP PHotoPeace and Democracy Party deputies Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Sebahat Tuncel were among those invited to attend a ball organized to commemorate the 168th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish police force, daily Hürriyet reported.
Tuncel had been fined around 25,000 Turkish Liras previously for slapping a police chief during Nevruz celebrations in 2011, which made her invitation even more of a topic of debate.
Neither deputy showed up for the event, which took place April 10, stating they were unaware of the invitations.
“I was in Istanbul, no invitation reached me,” Tuncel said. “It may have arrived at the office in Ankara.”
Önder also said he had not received an invitation.
