Turkish footballer Arda Turan, who currently plays for Spain’s Atletico Madrid, paid a visit to jailed ex-minister Mehmet Ağar in prison yesterday.

Former Interior and Justice Minister and police chief, Mehmet Ağar, was convicted in the “Susurluk scandal” case of 1996 and had turned himself in on April 26, in the western province of Aydın to serve five years in jail.

Arda reportedly spent 20 minutes in jail with Ağar and left reporters’ questions unanswered after his visit.
Ağar was charged for “establishing an armed organization to commit crime.” He was held responsible for weapons that went missing after being brought from Israel. It is believed that many of the weapons were used in extrajudicial killings in the southeast.

After winning the Europa League with his club May 10 Arda said he dedicated the trophy to Ağar.
