Some 150 kilos of TNT supported by ammonium nitrate were found on May 1 embedded in the Bingöl highway in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır.

Gendarmerie forces in the Lice district noticed a cable of an improvised explosive device while performing a routine morning mine search. The explosives, placed inside a propane cylinder, were later detonated at 8 a.m., after the gendarmerie took the necessary security precautions.

The powerful blast created a 4x8-meter hole in the road.

Meanwhile, The Diyarbakır Governor’s Office issued a statement upon the incident vowing to continue to take safety measures.

“We will continue to work resolutely for the peace and security of our people,” the statement said.
