10th Book Fair opens in northwestern city

The northwestern province of Bursa opened its 10th book fair March 10 with the participation of 265 publishing houses and nongovernmental organizations.

The fair will host 76 cultural events and 600 writers until March 17.

‘Bursa is a city that makes peple write’ 

Speaking at the opening ceremony, daily Hürriyet publishing consultant Doğan Hızlan said a city should have some values in order to write about it and that Bursa was a city that could make people write about it. 

Culture and Tourism Ministry Libraries and Publications General Director Professor Onur Kula said the ministry would provide financial resources for writers starting from next year as part of an incentive program for literature. 

The theme of this year’s fair, which is being held at the TÜYAP Bursa International Fair and Congress Center, is “Writing Bursa.” 

Writers Osman Can, Mustafa Armağan, Mehmet Emin Ay, Şamil Tayyar, Mehmet Altan, Okay Tiryakioğlu, Ahmet Günbay Yıldız, Bejan Matur, Gülten Dayıoğlu, Can Dündar, Ahmet Ümit and Cüneyt Ülsever will all appear at the book event.
