A 31-year-old woman committed suicide at Cevahir Shopping Center in Istanbul’s Şişli district on July 21 by jumping from the mall’s sixth floor.

Ayşegül Annakkaya entered the mall at around 10 a.m. and walked up to the sixth floor, where the center’s food court is located. After reviewing footage, police determined that the woman jumped at 10:17 a.m.

A medical team that arrived on the scene pronounced her dead on arrival. Crime scene investigators subsequently laid out barrier tape to prevent people from entering the scene.

A probe is ongoing while the body was sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) following an order from a prosecutor.

Four people have died at the mall in the past, daily Radikal reported. Last year, Ümit Büyükçolak, a 33-year-old who worked at the Grand Bazaar, jumped to his death from the fifth floor. Before that, Ayşenur Özbaş, a 3.5-year-old girl, fell to her death from a stairwell on the fourth floor while 16-year-old Burak Hacıkasımoğlu also died after falling from the third floor when he lost his balance while trying to sit on a guardrail.
