Turkish jets hit PKK targets in southeastern province

Turkish jets hit PKK targets in southeastern province Turkish warplanes conducted airstrikes against outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) targets in the southeastern province of Siirt late on Aug. 7. A total of 13 militants were killed as a result of the airstrikes, Anadolu Agency reported.

The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) carried out the air operation after receiving intelligence on the presence of PKK militants in rural Siirt. 

The Turkish F-16s which carried out the operation returned to their bases safely.

Also in Siirt, one soldier was killed and four others were wounded in an attack by PKK militants. 

Clashes erupted between PKK militants and soldiers in the Eruh district early on Aug. 7, leaving Specialized Sgt. Yunus Emre dead. 

His body was brought to the western province of Isparta on a military plane.

Lawmakers from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) and opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) were among the people who received the body. 
Emre’s funeral ceremony was due to be held on Aug. 8.
