Turkish jazz history to be discussed

ISTANBUL
Akbank Sanat will host Jazz Vocal seminars on Dec. 11-12. The seminars focus on previously undiscussed topics in Turkish jazz history. Hülya Tüncağ will give the seminar for two days.

On Dec. 11 the seminar titled “First Years and Trailblazers” examines Turkish jazz history and on Dec. 12 “The Mid Generation, The Schooled and the Young Generation” will look at the academic part of Turkish jazz.

Tüncağ said, “This topic has not garnered the attention it deserves within Turkish Jazz History, however, we should place a particular importance on it, given the new performers who are currently emerging one after another. Remarkable records have been released, though.”

She added, following the guidance of trailblazers such as Sevinç Tevs and Ayten Alpman, a generation has been and will be emerging with a life entirely dedicated to jazz. Therefore, a seminar was all but inevitable and would introduce these old and new great-hearted performers. “This is how we can at least exhibit our gratitude to them,” she added.
