Ambassadors Faruk Kaymakçı and Sedat Önal and minister consultant Yavuz Selim Kıran have been appointed as deputy foreign ministers with a presidential decree issued on the Official Gazette on Aug. 7.

Kaymakçı was serving as Turkey’s permanent representative to the European Union. Önal was the deputy undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry responsible for affairs of the Middle East including Turkey’s Syrian policy.

With the decree some cadres within the Religious Affairs Directorate (Diyanet) and directorates of the Industry and Technology Ministry were also appointed.

Recent appointments came more than two months after elections on June 24, which led to major changes in the state structure. Undersecretary and deputy undersecretary posts in the Foreign Ministry have been abolished.
