The operators of a freight train that crashed into a passenger train  on April 18, injuring 15 people, were driving under the influence of alcohol, according to findings in the preliminary investigation
report.

Authorities have relieved the freight train’s chief conductor and operators of their duties, while the prosecutor’s office investigates the accident. The freight train that operators were driving struck a passenger train from the rear while the latter was parked at a railroad terminal in the central province of Niğde. The two train operators underwent a test at the Niğde Public Hospital, indicating that one of them had more than the legal limit of a .05 blood alcohol level. The test revealed that A.K. had a blood alcohol level of more than .136, while A.B.’s was .028.
