Prosecutor inspects Özal’s grave

As a team led by two public prosecutors inspected the mausoleum of late President Turgut Özal in Istanbul yesterday and his body is expected to be exhumed soon.

Oktay Ergün, a prosecuter appointed by Ankara’s Chief Public Prosecutor’s office for an ongoing investigation concerning Özal’s death, was joined by Istanbul public prosecutor, Muammer Akkaş, who is in charge of the Ergenekon case.

The team of 10 people reviewed the exhumation method that would be used to remove the body and took soil samples from the grave.

Turgut Özal, Turkey’s eighth president, died of a heart attack on April 17, 1993 in his office in Ankara.
