Pro-Kurdish party leader to be buried in Konya

Pro-Kurdish party leader to be buried in Konya The chair of pro-Kurdish Rights and Liberties Party (HAK-PAR), Fehmi Demir, who was killed Oct. 25 in a car crash in the southern province of Mersin, will be laid to rest in central Anatolian province of Konya on Oct. 27.

Demir crashed into an Austrian-plated car operated by Hacı Murat Doğu, which had turned over on the Tarsus-Adana-Gaziantep highway. Demir and Doğu died at the scene.

The body of Demir was sent to Ankara after its initial examination. His son, Yılmaz Demir, and his party officials received the body from Tarsus State Hospital on Oct. 26 to be brought to Ankara for a ceremony to be held on Oct. 27 at the HAK-PAR headquarters. The body will then be taken to Konya for a funeral prayer and burial. 

Meanwhile, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) President Massoud Barzani sent his condolences to the family of Demir in a statement released on Oct. 26. 

The People’s Democratic Party (HDP) has also expressed condolences for Demir.
