Norwegian cyclist dies after hit by truck in Trabzon

A 26-year-old Norwegian cyclist has lost his life after being hit by a truck in the northern province of Trabzon's Sürmene district.

The incident occurred in the Çamburnu tunnel on Oct. 23, when Steffene Emil Snppene was struck by the vehicle while traveling from Trabzon to the nearby city of Rize.

Snppene had come to the region from Norway as part of a bicycle tour along the Black Sea.

Health and gendarmerie teams swiftly responded to the accident after being alerted. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Snppene succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

His lifeless body was transported to the forensic medicine institution for autopsy following an examination by the prosecutor's office.

The truck driver, who was apprehended by the gendarmerie, was later released under judicial control after appearing in court. In his statement, he attributed the accident to "reduced visibility caused by darkness," citing the narrow angle of view.
