Traffic fines worth 1.5 million Turkish Liras were issued to around 9,000 Istanbul drivers every day on average last year, according to police department reports.

Some 3.3 million drivers were fined a total of 550 million liras in Istanbul in 2015, state-run Anadolu Agency reported. 

According to the reports from the Highway Traffic Control division and the Istanbul Traffic Control division, parking violations top the list, with some 726,237 drivers fined a total of 63.9 million liras for the offence.
Parking violations are followed by “violating traffic signboards, devices and location markers,” with 622,095 drivers fined a total of 54.7 million liras for the offence. 

Speed violations are third in the list, with 568,328 drivers fined a total of 143.5 million liras for the offence. 

Police also fined 282,685 drivers a total of 24.9 million liras for “talking on the phone while driving,” 254,835 drivers a total of 48.1 million liras for “violating stoplights,” 102,741 drivers a total of 9 million liras for “not wearing a seatbelt,” 35,515 drivers a total of 6.7 million liras for “incorrect lane changing,” and 19,723 drivers a total of 15.8 million liras for “drunk driving.”
