President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has discussed bilateral relations and global developments with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, the Communication Directorate said on Aug. 19.
The phone conversation addressed both bilateral, global and regional matters, according to the directorate.
During the call, Erdoğan reiterated that Türkiye will continue to exert efforts to enhance relations with Japan in all areas, particularly in the defense industry, investments and trade.
The president stated that the “only way to resolve the conflict between Iran and the U.S. is through negotiations,” and that Türkiye continues to support diplomatic efforts for lasting peace and stability.
He once again conveyed his condolences to Takaichi for those who lost their lives in the earthquake that struck Kumamoto last month.
Of the 39 fatalities, 36 were directly caused by the 7.1-magnitude tremor, while one, apparently due to heat stroke, is believed to be related to the disaster. The circumstances surrounding the other two deaths were still being examined for possible links to the quake.
