Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's adopted daughter, Ülkü Adatepe, was killed in a highway car accident yesterday in the Akyazı district of Sakarya province, daily Hürriyet has reported.

Adatepe's husband and the driver were injured in the accident, which occurred when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Adatepe, who fell out of the car during the crash, reportedly died at the scene.

Her husband and the driver were taken to hospital after paramedics arrived and pulled them out of the vehicle.

Adatepe, who was adopted when she was nine months old, had stayed in the presidential residence of Çankaya Köşkü with Atatürk until he died in 1938.
