‘Shakespeare Week’ to be marked by State Theaters

‘Shakespeare Week’ to be marked by State Theaters

The whole world, including Turkey, will mark the 450th birthday of Shakespeare with events throughout the year in 2014.

For the first time this year, the State Theaters (DT) will organize “Shakespeare Week.” His classical works will be on stage throughout the week.

According to a written statement made by the DT, Shakespeare plays performed by Ankara, İzmir, Istanbul, Antalya and Erzurum State Theaters will be on stage between Jan. 21 and 26.

“Macbeth” will be staged on Jan. 21, 24 and 26 at Büyük Theater. Other plays to be staged during the week will be “The Merchant of Venice” at Küçük Theater, “The Tempest” at Şinasi Stage, “Hamlet” at Akün Stage, “Twelfth Night” at Şahinbaş Atölye Stage, “Othello” at Cüneyt Gökçer Stage and “Shakespeare’s Sonnets” at Oda Theater.

Also in Istanbul, his play, “Good Night Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)” will be on stage at the Kenter Theater on Jan. 10, 11, 24, 25 and 26, 2014 and at the Caddebostan Culture Center on Jan. 12.
