Remote controls pinned to desks to avoid theft in eastern Turkey

Officials in a hospital in the eastern province of Erzurum have attached all television remote controls to desks, in order to prevent them being stolen, private broadcaster NTV reported on its website.

The remote controls were put in special boxes first, before being attached to tables, the report said.

Patients and their relatives reportedly had difficulties using these remote controls and so had to move the whole table closer to the television when it did not catch the signal.

Officials from the hospital said the remote controls had been frequently stolen from common rooms and that they had come up with this solution to avoid further thefts.
