A 3-month-old baby has been killed alongside her grandfather in the southeastern province of Şırnak after being struck by a bullet at home, after which her grandfather was also shot dead trying to rush the baby to an ambulance.

The baby, identified as Miray İnce, was shot in the back of her head reportedly while in her mother’s lap inside their house in the Sur neighborhood of Şırnak’s Cizre district at 10:45 a.m.

The family swiftly called an ambulance for the gravely wounded baby, but the ambulance could not enter the street due to trenches, barricades and ongoing clashes on Sukanalı Street.

Miray’s 73-year-old grandfather, Ramazan İnce, and her aunt Rukiye İnce made a run toward the ambulance. The trio, however, were struck by bullets once more according to witness accounts. The origin of the gunshots could not be determined.

All three were transferred to Cizre State Hospital for treatment where the baby succumbed to her wounds.

After first aid, Ramazan and Rukiye İnce were sent to Aşkın Tüfekçi State Hospital in Adana via air ambulance.

Miray’s grandfather also lost his life in Adana while Rukiye İnce remains in the intensive care unit following a surgery.

Adana Gov. Mustafa Büyük made a statement on the incident, stating Rukiye İnce’s health condition was fair.

“Our terror-stricken citizens were brought under care in Adana via air ambulance. Unfortunately, we lost one of them. The other was taken into surgery. She is now in intensive care in good condition,” Büyük stated.
