Opposition appoints MPs to revote campaign
The Republican People’s Party (CHP) has announced the formation of a new working group to campaign for Istanbul mayoral candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu ahead of do-over elections slated for June 23.
According to the CHP parliamentary group, the group of lawmakers will canvass for İmamoğlu’s campaign and speak with voters face-to-face in different districts of the city.
The group announced that only 16 of the main opposition party’s 144 lawmakers would stay in the capital Ankara to fulfill their parliamentary duties. Together CHP lawmakers control 24 percent of the 600-seat parliament.
The party plans to launch their official campaign on May 22.
