Outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants injured one firefighter on March 27 in the Nusaybin district of the southeastern province of Mardin, where clashes between security forces and the PKK are ongoing.

The firefighters were targeted as they tried to put out a fire that had broken out at a house in the Yenişehir neighborhood of Nusaybin at around midday.

Another fire truck that was going for support also came under fire but nobody was injured.

The two trucks were abandoned and the firefighters were evacuated in another vehicle.

The injured fireman, Hacı Yıldız, was taken to the Nusaybin State Hospital before he was moved to the Mardin State Hospital.

Clashes have recently intensified in Nusaybin, where a curfew has been imposed since March 14.

Three soldiers and one police officer were killed by the PKK in the town on March 27. The military said in a statement March 28 that 12 PKK militants were killed on the same day, in addition to 16 in the southeastern province of Şırnak and four in Hakkari province’s Yüksekova district.
