Face transplant patient in Turkey set to become father

A man who made history by becoming the fifth Turk to undergo a face transplant will soon become a father, according to reports.Esma Aykurt Sert, the wife of 28-year-old facial transplant patient Recep Sert, is reportedly three weeks pregnant.
Sert received his new face in 2013 from 42-year-old Andrzej Kucza, a Polish tourist that was left brain dead following a mishap while on holiday in Turkey.
During the procedures for his operation at Antalya’s Akdeniz University Hospital, Sert met Esma Aykurt. The couple wed last year in Bursa before settling in the northwestern province’s İnegöl district.
The couple said that if the child is a boy, they planned to name it Ömer in honor of Dr. Ömer Özkan, who performed the surgery on Sert.
Turkish doctors have become increasingly ambitious in recent years in attempting facial and limb transplants.
