Countdown starts for Placido Domingo concert in Istanbul

Legendary Spanish tenor Placido Domingo will be on stage in Istanbul for the first time on Jan 19 as part of his world tour.

One of the most successful tenors of the century, Placido Domingo, will be in Istanbul on Jan. 19, accompanied by the 65-person Filarmonia Istanbul Orchestra.

Dubbed the “king of opera,” the Spanish tenor and conductor has performed on stage for more than a half century. He will perform works from his rich repertoire on Jan. 19 at Ülker Sports Arena.
Domingo has released more than 100 albums and won nine Grammy Awards. Commanding a wide-ranging repertoire, from Mozart to Verdi, from Berlioz to Puccini and from Wagner to Ginastera, the tenor has given unforgettable performances in over 40 lead tenor roles in the classical opera.

He is known as one of the most effective artists in engaging people with the art of opera thanks to his appearances in operatic films and television programs, the number of albums he has recorded and the number of performances he has given at concerts and music festivals around the world.

Domingo gained international fame after the “Three Tenors” concert staged at the 1990 World Cup in Italy, and a recording of the following tour consisting of 35 concerts with Italian Luciano Pavarotti and Catalan José Carreras is one of the best-selling classical music albums ever.

In addition to his career as a tenor, Domingo proved the polyphonic characteristic of his voice in 2009
by playing the baritone in Simon Boccanegra and he has continued to play baritone parts since. In a show of his versatility, he set a record by staging 144 different roles in 2003.

He closed last year’s iTunes Festival in London on Sept. 30 and last month released a new album titled “Encanto del Mar,” a delightful collection of Mediterranean songs that treats listeners to the singer basking in a mellow, relaxed and reflective mood. The album showcases Domingo’s signature musical versatility and his attention to detail and every nuance of the vocal line.

Domingo will be in Istanbul two days before his 74th birthday, following concert performances in the renowned art hubs of New York, Berlin, London, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Milan as part of the world tour he began in 2014.

The Istanbul concert is organized in cooperation with Map Communication, Pozitif Live and Piu Music under the sponsorship of Garanti Bank. Tickets are available at Biletix.
