Spartak Moscow fans burned posters of modern Turkey's founding father, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, during yesterday’s first-leg Champions League qualifier against Istanbul's Fenerbahçe, daily Hürriyet reported today.

Turkish flags were also burned by the Spartak fans, according to a report penned by an observer from European football’s governing body, UEFA.

An official response is yet to come from UEFA, but Russian media reports hinted at a possible end to Spartak's Champions League journey if the team ends up being disqualified.

Spartak was handed a 75,000-euro fine and a one-match stadium ban two years ago following conflicts during a Champions League match against Slovakia’s MSK Zilina.
