Cristiano Ronaldo is a major doubt for Real Madrid's Champions League clash with Galatasaray on Wednesday after tests carried out on Monday detected a hamstring injury.

The Portuguese had opened the scoring to register his 14th goal in his last seven games for club and country in Real's 5-0 win over Almeria on Saturday.

However, he then had to be substituted on 54 minutes after pulling up with the injury when attempting a cross from the left.

A statement on the club's website said "an injury had been detected in the back part of his left thigh," although it didn't state how long the 28-year-old could be sidelined for.

However, with Real already virtually assured of their place in the last-16 of the Champions League, it is highly unlikely that Ronaldo will be risked against the Turkish champions.

Ronaldo's sensational form of late, whilst Barcelona rival Lionel Messi has been sidelined with a hamstring injury of his own, has made him the strong favourite to win his second Ballon d'Or in January.

The former Manchester United man already has 32 goals to his name this season and had played every single minute of competitive action for Madrid this season before coming off against Almeria.
