Ankara’s public prosecutor has launched a probe into the Republic Day demonstration held in Ankara yesterday, daily Hürriyet reported.

Five thousand police officers and two police helicopters were charged with preventing the demonstration. A large number of streets were closed by Ankara police and in addition pepper spray and two tons of water were used on the protestors.

Before the demonstration the Ankara Governorate had said it was an unauthorized demonstration and they would interfere.

As a result of the incidents between the police and demonstrators, 43 protestors and nine police officers were injured.

Launching an in-depth investigation, the prosecutor’s office will examine all the video records from security cameras in the area, and every protestor that is identified committing a crime will be interrogated regarding the incident.
