Two men were allegedly caught smoking marijuana in a mosque in the Anatolian province of Konya, and attempted to disguise their activity by pretending to be washing up ahead of prayers, Doğan news agency reported.

The police received a tip-off about suspicious behavior taking place at the mosque in the Meram district, and took the suspects by surprise. The two men, aged 31 and 20, allegedly then disposed of the stash in the mosque’s fountain and pretended to be washing up ahead of praying.

Around 275 grams of substance was discovered on the suspects, who were taken into custody following the incident.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
