Beşiktaş failed to break the deadlock against a hapless Ankaragücü side. AA photoBeşiktaş suffered a big shock, being held to a goalless draw at the hands of hapless Ankaragücü in a Spor Toto Super League match Jan. 8.
The Black Eagles blew a chance to keep pace with leader Galatasaray, who is on 43 points, and are now second with 36 points.
Beşiktaş spent a better part of the game searching for chances in the Ankaragücü half but failed to break the deadlock.
Ankaragücü, sitting on the bottom of the standings, got its 11th point in 19 matches. The team has been suffering financial woes and lost more than half of its squad in free transfers last month due to failure to pay their fees. After filling its squad with reserve players, Ankaragücü beat Mersin İdman Yurdu in its first game in the second part of the season and continued its bid for survival.
For Beşiktaş, it was a big upset.
“In games like this, it’s hard to find chances,” coach Carlos Carvalhal said. “We have found some but couldn’t convert.”
