Aydın Menderes laid to rest

Aydın Menderes, a former lawmaker and son of late Prime Minister Adnan Menderes, was laid to rest yesterday in Istanbul.

Parliamentary Speaker Cemil Çiçek and Justice Minister Sadullah Ergin were among the participants at the funeral for Menderes, who died in Ankara on Dec. 23.

Born in 1946 in Ankara, Menderes began politics in 1970 in the Democrat Party (DP). He was elected as a deputy for the Justice Party (AP) in 1977, became leader of the Great Change Party in 1993, a deputy leader of the Welfare Party (RP) in 1996 and a deputy for the Virtue Party (FP) in 1999. He quit politics in 2002. Aydın Menderes was the son of Adnan Menderes, Turkey’s prime minister between 1950 and 1960, but was executed after the 1960 coup.
