Antalya upset by minnow Akhisar

AKHİSAR
Medical Park Antalyaspor blew a chance to draw level with Galatasaray on top of the Spor Toto Super League standings when it lost 1-0 to Akhisar on Jan. 9.

A last-minute goal by Uğur Demirok gave Akhisar the victory over high-flying Antalyaspor in the postponed game.

“That was an unexpected loss,” Antalyaspor coach Mehmet Özdilek said. “We are not where we left off. We have yet to regain our rhythm.”

The game was postponed after 16 minutes due to torrential rain last month, and the rescheduled game on Jan. 9 was restarted from the 16-minute mark.

The loss left Antalyaspor third on 30 points, three points behind leader Galatasaray.

The win could prove a lifeline for Akhisar, which took its tally to 15 points to sit bottom of the table, but found hope with its first home win this season.

“We are a good team, playing well, but until today we have failed to turn our good performances into wins,” Akhisar coach Hamza Hamzaoğlu said. “We will work hard to do better and will not give up until the end of the season.”
