Turkish Land Forces Commander Gen. Hulusi Akar visited Suruç, a border town in the southeastern province of Şanlıurfa on Oct. 6, to inspect troops positioned against threats from the Syrian side.

Following a briefing at the 3rd Border Battalion Command, Akar visited troops deployed at the border in Mürşitpınar and conveyed Eid al-Adha holiday greetings.

The general also observed the clashes between Kurdish militia and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militansts in Kobane with binoculars from a hill overlooking the Syrian town.

The Turkish military increased measures and deployed 25 tanks and other armored vehicles to a hill near Mürşitpınar.

The military had earlier taken strict measures, positioning howitzers and cannonballs at crucial spots and intensifying patrolling activities.

The security forces were also trying to keep civilians and vehicles away from the danger zone.
