Turkish forces ‘neutralize’ 11 PKK militants in eastern province, northern Iraq
ANKARA
Turkish jets destroyed weapon depots and hideouts of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), while neutralizing 11 militants in northeastern Turkey and northern Iraq, the military said on Dec. 27.
Strikes on PKK targets were carried out in the northern Iraq region resulting in 11 militants being “neutralized,” a term that usually suggests the targets have been killed.
The militants had been preparing to attack military outposts on the border, according to a statement by the Turkish General Staff.
Six of the militants were neutralized in the Avasin-Basyan region of northern Iraq and five other militants were neutralized in the outskirts of the Refahiye district in the eastern province of Erzincan.
