Trade union elects new head, general secretary

Erol Ekici has been elected the new chairman of the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions (DİSK) which held its 14th general meeting between Feb. 10 and 12 at its headquarters in Istanbul.DİSK’s general meeting ended with board elections Feb. 12. Ekici, who was the head of the General Services Trade Union before accepting his new position, received 332 of 388 valid votes, making him the new chairman.
Adnan Serdaroğlu, meanwhile, was elected as the confederation’s general secretary.
Five of the seven members of the board were also replaced at the elections. No woman, however, was elected to the board.
Some 45 trade union representatives from Africa, Europe and Arab countries, including the International Confederation of Arab Trade Unions, also attended the DİSK meeting. k HDN
