A sound bomb exploded at the ruling Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) election bureau in Artuklu district in the southeastern province of Mardin on May 19. One person has been detained over the incident.

No casualties were reported after the blast hit the bureau opened by the AKP deputy Gönül Bekin Şahkulubey as a coordination office for campaigning in Artuklu.

One individual who purportedly threw the sound bomb grenade into the bureau was detained and the police are searching for another involved in the attack.

A guarded vehicle outside the bureau was slightly damaged when the sound bomb exploded. Police forces were dispatched to the scene and the number of security vehicles doubled around the area.

An investigation has been launched into the incident.

The incident comes two days after twin blasts at offices of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in the southern provinces of Mardin and Adana.
