ISTANBUL - Anatolia News Agency
“Ooops! My dad has retired” has been named the winner of the 15th Flying Broom International Women’s Film Festival competition.

The movie, which is directed by Bilgi Diren Güne, was chosen as the best short movie. The movie focuses on men and their effects on Turkish culture.

This year’s short film competition mainly focused on the question, “Can I call you dad?” The competition showcased movies that mainly reflected on male culture in Turkey and how this affects culture in general.
The jury consisted of Gülden Treske, Meltem Ağduk, Tayfun Atay, Pelin Aytemiz and Sevna Somuncuoğlu.
Musa Ak’s movie “İs” (Fume), which will soon be shown in cinemas, was also awarded, with critics saying the movie was very impressive in terms of cinematography.

The festival – which since 2003 has been dedicated to the memory of Bilge Olgaç, one of the most creative directors in the history of Turkish cinema – will present success awards to actresses Füsun Demirel and Serra Yılmaz, while an honorary award will be given to actress Hale Soygazi.

The awards will be presented during the opening ceremony of the festival on May 7 at the State Opera and Ballet in Ankara.

The festival will feature 115 films by 100 directors from 41 countries and will present a selection from one of the leading names of Moroccan cinema, Farida Benlyazid, which was especially prepared by Turkish film critic Sevin Okyay for the 15th anniversary.
