CHP vows to establish Middle East ‘peace organization’ with Iran, Iraq and Syria

Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has pledged to establish a “Middle East Peace and Cooperation Organization” with Iran, Iraq and Syria.

“In the first year [of CHP rule] we will build a Middle East Peace and Cooperation Organization,” Kılıçdaroğlu said on May 28 at a meeting with Driver’s Association members in Ankara.

“Are we not able to solve our own problems? We have relatives in Syria, Iran and Iraq. There are Kurds, Turkmens, Yezidis, Arabs in those countries, just as here there are Kurds, Turkmens, Yezidis and Arabs. Why are we fighting?” he added.

The CHP head pledged to help “transform the region into a field of peace” through various infrastructural projects in war-torn parts of the world.

“We will be the one that rebuilds the Middle East. We have the facility to build housings, bridges, roads and hospitals,” Kılıçdaroğlu said.

“Turkey should use its own initiative outside of the West’s power. It should make peace and we should live together,” he added.
